May 3, 10 AM - 5 PM       Clay Creations: Traditional Native American Pottery
Experience making traditional Native American pottery throughout the day. Techniques demonstrated include coil and pinch pots. Participants can create their own pottery to bring home.

June 28, 10 AM - 5 PM       Before there was a Minnesota
Explore the natural and cultural world of Minnesota's first peoples:
**
Stone Tools - watch a flintknapper make stone tools. Try your hand at making your own.
**
American Indian Textiles - use native plants to make cordage.
**
Atlatls - make your own atlatl and try throwing spears at a target with an atlatl.
**
Pottery - make your own clay pot.
**
Taste edible prairie plants.
**
Make your own model of a prairie plant.
**
Go on a prairie scavenger hunt.


July 26, 10 AM - 5 PM       Made in Minnesota - American Indian Technology
Explore the world of American Indian Technology through demonstrrations and hands-on activities.
**
Stone tools - watch a flintknapper make stone tools. Try your hand at making your own.
**
Cordage - use native plants to make cordage.
**
Atlatl Activities - make your own atlatl at no extra charge and try your hand at throwing spears with an atlatl at life-like buffalo and deer targets set in the prairie.


August 2, 8 PM - Midnight       Starry Night, Prairie Night
View the petroglyphs when they are best seen - at dusk. Enjoy a twilight prairie tour to leam about animals of the night. Bring your own flashlight and a blanket, lay in the prairie, gaze at one of Minnesota's darkest skies and learn about constellations through stories from cultures around the globe. Bring your own telescope or use ours to view stars and planets.

August 9, 10 AM - 5 PM       Butterflies are Free: Family Day at Jeffers Petroglyphs
Enjoy free admission and explore the world of butterflies. Hands-on activities and walking tours lead visitors through the extraordinary world of butterflies. Explore the rock carvings and learn more about the people who made the carvings and the prairie they lived in.

August 16, 10 AM - 8 PM       Prairie Photography - A Natural View
Local photographer Shelley Olson is available to give instruction on photographing prairie plants. Explore landscape, close-up and lighting techniques. Learn about camera equipment. Visitors are welcome to bring a camera to take photographs and enjoy the beauty of one of Minnesota's most unique prairies. A driving tour of several area prairies will begin start at 3:00 p.m. Event will be held rain or shine.

August 23, 10 AM - 5 PM       Minnesota Prairies at the time of Statehood
Hands-on activities and walking tours will lead visitors through the world of prairies. Taste edible prairie plans, make your own model of a prairie plant, make cordage from plant fibers, go on a prairie scavenger hunt, press your own plant specimen and discover the animals that live in the rich prairie soil.

September 6, 10 AM - 5 PM       American Indian Games
Play traditional American Indian games while learning about the fun pastimes the people of the prairie enjoyed long ago. Some of the games will include: Double-ball, the Moccasin Game, and the Awl Game.
