BUMPER POOL RULES AS I RECALL THEM The balls are lines up on the opposite end of the table from the corresponding hole (e.g., the white balls go on the end with the red bumpers around the hole). The spotted ball is lined up in front of the pocket, about 1" out. The other balls are spaced evenly between the side rail and the middle (2 on either side), about 1" from the bottom rail. It's a simultaneous start - we used to just count to 3, and on 3, both players shoot the spotted ball, trying to bank it into the pocket on the other end (so all the red balls will go in the red pocket). If neither player makes their ball, the one closest to the pocket shoots first. If one makes it and the other doesn't, they get to shoot any of their other balls towards their pocket. If both players sink their balls, they each take one from their remaining 4 (usually the same ball), place it in front of the hole where their spotted one was, and they start again. NOTE: You CAN NOT shoot any of your other balls until you sink your spotted ball. Your opponent gets to drop one of theirs (pick it up and drop it in the pocket) if you do. Penalties: If you accidently shoot one of the other player's balls (red player shoots a white ball), your opponent get to drop one of theirs in the pocket. If you accidently MAKE one of theirs, though, they don't get to. (Your penalty is giving them the ball). If you shoot one of your unspotted balls before you make your spotted one, they get to drop one. If you make one of yours illegally (drop it in the wrong pocket), they get to drop 2 balls. Strategies: If you like playing defense, use your shots to keep them away from a clear shot at the pocket, or leave one of yours in front of their pocket. That's it as far as I recall. We had an actual rulebook, and this is how it was played. I hope it helps, and if you have any more questions, just e-mail me.
