Adopt a Family (Year Round)
Individuals, Families and Businesses are needed to Adopt a Family of
Domestic Violence. You do this by helping the family with their needs once
they leave the shelter, like clothing, school supplies, furniture, deposits
for utilities, and the list goes on. (These items can be used items) But
it allows the Survivors and their children to have the neccessities of life to
call their own and makes it less likely that they will end up back with their abuser.
Adopt a Child/Family for the Holidays
We work with our local elementary schools to find families who are in need
for the holidays. Then we advertise through PSA's, press releases, etc. for
individuals, families, and businesses who want to help others during the
holidays at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Febuary 17th
Valentines Day Celebration Walk (Saturday)
Living without Fear Walk
Walking to insure the safety of Survivors and their Children of DV. Those
who participate would gather pledges and donations from family, co-workers,
businesses, and/or neighbors to help with Transitional Housing in their areas.
March 24th (Saturday)
Kids Against DV in the Park
Through the contact of local schools, children make posters, flyers, and other
things that promote the end of DV in their homes and neighborhoods. They
get to say how they feel. It would be a family day in the park, with entertainment,
food, and games, all to raise funds for awareness for families.
May 13th - Mother's Day (Sunday)
Remember Me
This is a an event to remember all of those who have died from DV during
the Easter Weekend. Here in South Florida we are going to take donations
through stores, setting up a booth in swap shops, from friends, family,
co-workers etc. (Min. of $1 donation) to purchase a flower for each person
in our state who has died by the Hands of Domestic Violence and set these
flowers out into the Ocean on this day. It will be visual with a speech and
the casting of the flowers. The rest of the funds raised should be used
for DV programs each agency has set up.
