Homeschool Days at the JeffersPetroglyphs
and the Lower Sioux Agency

2006-2007 Schedule


          For 2006-2007, all of the Homeschool Days will be on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Admission is $3.00 per person for ages 4 and up. If you'd like to attend one of the events, please contact the Site Manager to let them know you are coming, so they can have enough materials and staff on hand.

  • Rock Cycle Game
  • Experiments
  • UV Rocks
  • Pottery
  • Make and Take: Salt clay that can be baked and decorated.

Photography Day

  • Basics of Photography
  • Portraits taken with fun accessories
  • Make and Take: Photo frames





January 9, 2007
Lower Sioux Agency Historic Site, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Old Time Winter Fun Day

  • Cooking
  • Snowshoeing
  • Other fun in the snow
  • Make and Take: Beadwork or Snowflakes

Animals of the Prairie Day

  • Pelts, Puppets, Tracks, and Stories
  • Camoflage and Predators/Prey
  • Tracking game in the snow
  • Make and Take: Tracks on Paper - stationary/cards

History Day

  • Dress up in pioneer clothes
  • Practice and put on a short play/role play
  • McGuffey Readers
  • Songbooks with old-time songs
  • Winter Count
  • Make and Take: Weaving (Homeschooler will demonstrate)

Picnic Day

  • Enjoy a Picnic
  • Play Agency games: stilts, wheel and stick, old-time baseball
  • Play Dakota games: double-ball, bone and pin
  • Bord Hikes - Binoculars and field ID guides will be available
